Let the games begin

It’s January, which means that it’s playoff time in the National Football League. For the Philadelphia Eagles, the past month has not been the greatest in team history. Despite a rough December, the team is 13-3 with a first round bye and home field advantage throughout the entire run of the playoffs. Many critics and fans have lost a great deal of hope for the Eagles chances due to the loss of Quarterback, Carson Wentz to an injury. There is no way to sugarcoat this scenario as anything other than tragic. Under the guidance of Carson Wentz, the franchise had seen a resurgence and a revitalization unlike anything that we have seen in several years. Since the injury, the team has just not been the same.

Don't get me wrong. There are certainly plenty of reasons to be concerned, but with an extended break over the bye week and all of the games on the road to the Superbowl scheduled for The Linc, there are reasons to get excited. The teams that the Eagles could potentially play in the first round are either an indoor team with an up and down season (Falcons) or an inexperienced warm weather team with a high powered offense (LA Rams). The Rams are certainly scary when they have the football, but I question how Quarterback, Jared Goff, will handle the potentially extreme weather conditions and a tough Eagles defense. The keys to victory for the Eagles will be protecting the football, a bruising running game and playing relentlessly on defense particularly against Running Back, Todd Gurley. If the Eagles can contain Gurley and force Goff to try and win the game with his arm in a difficult environment, I am confident that the Eagles have an opportunity to make it to the NFC Championship game.

The bottom line is that the Eagles can construct the perfect gameplan to maximize the strengths that they do have and make it out of this game with a victory, but they have to get in the right mindset and believe that they are a championship team. They have to make their opponent fear them from the moment they walk into the stadium.

It all starts tonight!

Cheers!

Carl
