A New Year, A New Beginning

As the clock strikes twelve midnight, 2011 will come to a close and the doors to 2012 will spring open. Many would say that this year has flown by. I would agree. It was an interesting year to say the least.

For myself, a lot has happened in 2011. Around this time last year, I posted a question asking what does 2011 mean for everyone. I began the year finishing up my senior year in college with big dreams of building the platform of my adult life. As I worked hard to accomplish my goal of obtaining my Bachelors degree, I traveled to new places and experienced new things in which I had never experienced before. I made the most of every opportunity.

In 2011, I had a lot of fun traveling to Florida and spending a relaxing week at an ocean front condo during spring break, sitting courtside at an NBA game, and seeing one of my favorite rock bands perform live. I traveled to New York City, Atlantic City, and Philadelphia on a number of occasions experiencing some of the finest hotels and fine dining establishments on the east coast. I attended a Championship boxing event and lived it up in the nightlife at some of Atlantic City's hottest clubs and spent some time in North Carolina's Outer Banks while battling the hurricane. These times were spent with some amazing people.

This past year was the most rewarding year of my life. In May, I graduated with honors obtaining my Bachelors degree followed by earning full time employment. While the year may be over, I am certainly not finished growing. I will ask the same question in which I asked last year. For myself, I am fully focused on building on the success of last year and propelling to new heights and getting better and stronger with hard work, dedication, and an open mind.

What does 2012 mean for you?

The Timeline

Yesterday I was feeling a bit nostalgic. I spent a little time looking back at some old pictures from high school and other moments from years past. I could not believe how much things have changed. The styles of clothes. The younger looks that have now become aged and mature. The way of life that has changed as we grew older. I thought back and realized how everything has changed. I thought about how our daily schedules that used to involve my friends and I waking up in the morning for high school and then eventually going off to college and now focusing on working, graduate schools, and our adult futures. The timeline of life is quite extraordinary. It plays back in my mind like a television show. Memories are all that we have left of those youthful teenager days. Some of the moments brought back laughter as I recalled them. Some brought disbelief and regret. At first, I said to myself "Man, I sure would like to go back and do that again". I then realized that everything happens for a reason and all of those experiences were apart of the learning experience called life. I have grown up and matured. I stopped looking back and now looking forward to the next step.

Going All Out

A year ago I had an idea of creating as many media outlets on the internet as I could dream of. The possibilities were endless. I thought of so many new ideas that I wanted to bring to life. Reality set in. One year later, I find these ideas either struggling to gain exposure or still under construction. Many never debuted. I had a headache trying to figure out how to manage all of the sites. I still wanted to move forward with my film projects along with updating and innovating my new websites and projects. I kept the mindset of putting it off until the following day. I realized a year later that I am only human and it would be virtually impossible for me to execute all of my potential projects effectively with updated content. I got so frustrated that I almost wanted to give up. I decided not to. When something goes wrong we must try again. We must re-invent ourselves and try again from a different approach. Instead of operating a series of sites, I will be consolidating a number of my ideas into four or five sites. My original plan was fourteen or fifteen. With more of my energy and attention flowing to fewer outlets, the effectiveness of each site will be greater. I have a plan in mind for a prosperous new year ahead. I plan on going all with several new ideas over time. I plan on being patient with everything and will release everything once it is fully perfected. Last year was the inception. This year was the trial and error period. Next year will hopefully be the solution. The same goes for anyone else with a potential project in mind. Do not give up. Try different approaches until you get the desired result. Have a great day.

No Ceiling

For young and inspiring people with an entrepreneurial mindset, there is no such definition for a ceiling. Possibilities are endless. One may have had a childhood dream of opening a business or they might have just thought of something new out of the blue. The other day I was driving down a street in Princeton and I saw a vacated building for sale. As I sat in traffic, I envisioned an upscale cafe or restaurant filling the void at that location. I could also see a bar and grill lit up at night time in that location with groups of people lining up to enter. I have a way of taking a step back and looking at something small such as an empty building and picturing something on a much larger scale. There is nothing wrong with dreaming and wondering. This is how new ideas and experiments have the possibility of turning into highly profitable outlets. Think about your dreams and envision them a little closer with greater detail. You just never know what you might find. There is no such thing as a ceiling.

Decisions

Sometimes we are stuck at a huge fork in the road. The decision could be minor such as deciding between shrimp or steak. It could be deciding between wearing a certain shirt. We are always faced with decisions throughout our lives both minor and major. While growing up everything is usually structured to an extent. We are taught the alphabet and we go through grade school. After thirteen years we are faced with a major life decision. College or the workforce? What path is for me? Many of students choose college. Following graduation, we are released into the so-called "real world". Today's economy has created a difficult situation for many students entering the post-college work force. We must find a way to re-invent our skills are break out of the structure. We must stand out from the ordinary to exceed to greatness. What's in store for you? Our decisions are everything. Make it happen.

Time is Precious

Lately I have been thinking a lot about the future. Opportunities that I can pursue today may not be there in the future. The chances to travel and enjoy new things whether small or large are now. Whether if it is a new pair of headphones, designer clothes, court side tickets, or a special restaurant, sometimes we have to treat ourselves. It is important to remind ourselves how hard we work everyday and that all of the weekly stress is worth something.

I am excited for the next chapter in my life. I look forward to buying a house, getting married and having children someday. I want to grow and develop into the best man that I can be. I even plan on building the white fence outside of the front yard to complete my dream.

Before the next step becomes the reality, I want to experience as much I as can.

Time is very important. We only live once. I don't want to be too late.

A New World

There is a lot of uncertainty in today's society. The economic and energy issues are just some of the question marks that weigh in on the country. Anxiety is flowing and feelings of fear are in the air. There is no doubt that things are not perfect, but as we have in the past, we can and we will prevail through all of our problems. When it comes to the economy, much like in the past, we must find a new way to balance our lives and live within our means without over extending ourselves. We must build and keep building new ways to help our economy regain its strength that it once had. The same goes for the energy issues. We must find a way to adapt to green technology and expand on what we have in the present day. Once we adapt and expand on our green habits, everything will come together in time. We have come across speed bumps in the past and we have studied our mistakes and returned even better than before. Teamwork and optimism is the key. The future is ours.

By Our Means

A few years back, I had visions of enormous wealth and prosperity in life filled with luxurious items. Sport cars, designer suits, marble bathrooms, and lavish technologies that are owned by some of the wealthiest people in the world were at the top my list. I used to associate success with assets. Over the past year, I have recently begun to change my ways for my own good. I have come to the realization that success is not defined by items of luxury but rather how we have made a positive impact in the world. Working hard and raising a family is my number one focus that I would someday want to become a reality. I still enjoy the extra items and activities that life has to offer. I believe that are a way of driving us to achieve new levels of success once our basic goals have been accomplished. Working hard and taking life day by day is the key to building the successful life that we all desire.

Late Night Spiel: Atlantic City

Hello all and welcome to another edition of Late Night Spiel. Its another humid night in Jersey as I count down the days to the weekend which I like to make the most out of as much as I can. This weekend, I'll be in Atlantic City for some bright lights, gaming, and good food. There is something special about A.C. It has an exciting feel from the moment that you arrive. During the drive in, the lights off in the distance glow and maximize the breathtaking view of the skyline. Through the hours of the night, the casinos are alive, the theaters are packed with shows and sporting events, and the restaurants are serving up culinary artwork. No matter what time of day, there is always something exciting going on. I hope everyone enjoys their weekend.

Late Night Spiel: The Return

Hello out there to all of the readers. This is a column that I once did a few years back that I called my Late Night Spiel. I was up late and got the urge to write something so I thought I would bring back the title for a new edition. I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer so far.

The last time that I wrote this column was 2009 when I was still at the half way point through college. Since then I have graduated and am currently looking forward to new beginnings. The concept of this column came to me one night while I was working late on a school project. I am usually a night person up late with a cup of coffee until the early morning hours. Nostalgia has been on my mind recently while watching a few old TV shows and researching some old pop culture items from years back on the internet. Nostalgia is such a fun and incredible escape from everyday stress. No matter how rough your day has gone, a quick flashback to an old hangout or a favorite activity from the past always seems to bring a sense of joy to your mind at least for a split second. Technology is so far advanced today that reliving an old memory is easy. Media and pop culture from generation to generation is at our finger tips online.

When the day seems off, take a look back. Relax and have a wonderful Independence Day Weekend.

A Good Song

It is 6:10am. The loud alarm clock disrupts the peace of the room. I roll over to look with the thought of hitting the snooze and skipping the early morning planned work out. I decide to stick with the original plan and get up. The cold water from the sink splashes across my forehead. I stare into the mirror for a slight second. I take a sip of orange juice. I'm beginning to wake up. I walk outside in my track suit. I hop in my black car and drop the roof down. The perfect jolt to wake up comes through the stereo as a perfect song comes on. I hop on the highway and turn up the volume of the stereo as the car rolls down the road and the wind rushes. That was the great start to my day. Sometimes all you need is a good song to kick things off on the right track.

Taking the next step

College has come to a close for me. I have no clue where the time has gone. I still think back to the early days of going to elementary school with out a care in the world and then the confusing times of middle school where fitting in wasn't always easy at times followed by the growing pains of high school and dealing with first time relationships. After high school graduation, I entered the college world on the community level at Mercer where I learned a lot of work ethic and making your work better. I learned how to never give up there no matter what happened through many late nights and long hours. It was also during this time in which I learned the value of a dollar and how much you can really do with your savings if you set goals for yourself. Two years later, I graduated with an Associates Degree and moved on to Rider University, where I learned to adapt to a new environment and how to expand my skill set to a wider range. It was also where I met Natalie, the love of my life. After a couple more years, time rolled on and the school days dwindled. Before I knew it, I was back on the graduation stage once again receiving by Bachelors Degree. Every now and then I replay the years throughout my mind as I look ahead to the future wondering where the next step will take me. It has been a ride so far. Tomorrow looks like a sunny day.

New Doors to Open

This past week has been a hectic one. As it has been for the past few months, my future is always on my mind. Only a few months remain until I reach the real world. When I got started in college, I focused my attention heavily on television production. I wanted to produce and be my creative self until my elder years. About half way through my sophomore year, something sparked in my mind. I realized that with my high goal expectations I would have to push myself into a new gear. I figured that the formula for success can work by mastering multiple areas in addition to being in front the camera.

After a few years, my interests shifted from exclusively from television to the entire media business as a whole. In today's society, technology is so powerful and provides so many opportunities for people to do new things and a rapid speed. I began to study all aspects of media from advertising to radio, print, the internet, and other areas including television. I have an entrepreneurial mindset now and I absolutely love it. I believe that to build yourself and propel to where you would like to be, you have to learn everything that you can, be aware of your surroundings, and utilize your potential to the maximum.

With knowledge and a taste of multiple media areas, I feel that my goals are closer than I originally thought.

Big Dreams

What's going on? Its been a while since I wrote a new post. The last semester of my college career is now underway and my future has been on my mind. I've been pondering the next step for a while. I am considering a further education eventually. The immediate plan of action following Graduation is to find employment.

In the mean time, I am staying busy with a bunch of projects to go along with my studies. All of my websites that I spent the past year building are finally now live. My personal site, CarlBaus.com is fully running with content. I still would like to expand with new sections sometime in the near future. My online apparel store, Carl B's T-Shirt Shop, is loaded with products and available for purchase. I just recently launched my new men's site, PizzaBeerAndPowerTools.com, a site concept that I imagined one day last fall. The last site that I still want to build is a separate site for my production group, Carl Baus Productions. I am hoping to launch a site for that in the near future.

It is such a good feeling when a project finally comes to life. I feel that you can never dream too much. If you have a project idea that you are willing to pursue, give it a shot. This is how some of the greatest and most prosperous concepts begin. You will never know the end result unless you give it some effort. Don't get discouraged if something doesn't work out right away. These things take time. Taking things one day at a time and one step at a time is the absolute main key to finding the success that you wish.
